Kapunda High School formally known as Eringa House was owned by Cattle King Sir Sidney Kidman. In 1921 Sir Sidney gifted the Estate to the South Australian Education Depatment to establish a country high school. The heritage listed main building underwent major refurbishment in 2011-2012 however in March 2022 a huge fire gutted the historic Eringa building. Adelaide Pressed Metal & their fibrous ceiling division, Cooymans Ceiling Contractors, were chosen by the SA Government for the restoration of the pressed metal & ornate fibrous ceilings & arches throughout the building. Adelaide Pressed Metal & their experienced team worked closely with heritage architects Grieve Gillett & builder Badge Constructions to reinstate the heritage features lost in the fire. Pressed metal ceilings & cornice were supplied & installed with all but one pressed metal profile in production from the Australian Pressed Metal catalogue. The missing design was sourced from the St Kilda Theatre in Melbourne & reproduced to restore the Kapunda High School. The design was named Kapunda in its honour. All pressed metal & decorative fibrous was reproduced like for like & there were very few photos & no official documents available to work from. It took 12 months to source all pressed metal & fibrous elements, approximately 28 different pressed metal & fibrous plaster features & compile the original designs of the ceilings for each room. A team of 6 specialty pressed metal & fibrous installers were on site over a period of 8 months. Decades of knowledge & skill was needed to complete this project which Owner of Adelaide & Australian Pressed Metal Phil Cooymans has, having worked on many of Australia's iconic heritge buildings. This project was one of his proudest projects, restoring a piece of South Australian history.
